John Denny, aged about 42, met his death early this morning ' '. under sad ahd strange circumstances. He had Tented a room in a boardinghouse in i Wilson Street, and lately , lie hid been un- ' well,- but refused advice to go to. the hos- , pital. Last night, being probably in a -| high fever, he had a bath, but a fellow j boarder carried him back to . bed Later lis I got out of bed and Walked, off the veran- ; dah roof, sustaining injuries from which he died in the hospital. \ Deceased had served in the South African war, where he was wounded, and for : which service he was in receipt of a peii- } sion. ' Investigations show ' practically beyond j a doubt that the body found near the '- . j Northern Cemetery yesterday is that of j Charles B. Jarman, who was a clerk in. • the Government Shipping Office, and who | disappeared oh.December 3. A handker- i chief found on the.body has the initials : "C.8.J.," and the. body corresponds ex- < actly with that of Jarman, so far as i height, etc., are concerned. When Jarman was last seen ho was walking m t the direction of the Northern Cemetery.- ~ Some writing found in the clothes has been identified as that of tho missing : man. The inquest on the body was . opened this morning, before the. above, par- ; ticulars came to light, but it was journed. ,
PTOMAINE POISONING CASES.
Dunedin, December 11. Two children named Rutherford, S girl aged 6i years and a boy aged 5 years, fesiding in King Edwkrcl Street, became scriousfy ill this morning, and had to bo removed to the hospital to-niglit, suffering from ptomaine poisoning, inera are slight liopcs of their recovery, but their condition is very critical.
