TAXI-CAB MISHAP.
ACCIDENT IN KARORI ROAD. A serious motor-car accident happened in Karori Road on Tuesday afternoon. The mishap occurred near the Botanical Gardens, and resulted in Mrs. Henry Shapcott, of Farm Road, Northland,. beins; injured. Mrs. Shapcott and her daughter were walking down the road, and on the approach of the car both struck out in opposite directions. The driver of the car was, he says, unable to avoid Mrs. Shapcott, who was knocked down by the vehicle, and subsequently had to bo taken out from underneath it.
1 The car was driven by Mr. EricWalr lace, and it is owned by Mr. Robinson, the licensee of the Commercial Hotel. It was a taxi-cab, and had been engaged by Mr. Eric Kilman, of Tinakori Road, to take a party of ladies to Makara Beach. !. Mrs. Shapcott has 1 , been in delicate 'health' lately, and has been attended by Dr. Holmes, who happened to pass by at about the tirne of the accident. Dr. Holmes sent for an ambulance, and hod Mrs. Shapcott removed to her home. Dr. Holmes states that so far Mrs. Shapcott 'is ; not in danger, but that she has sustained two broken ribs and slight concussion. .
• The driver of the car states that he elqwed dow,n tp a;;rate; of'about five to seven"niiles ;;: per Tio'ur'"wifen close to thewomen, and that had he been on a fiat road .instead of a decline he could have pulled up when lie was endeavouring to i avoid' Mrs. Shapcott.
