WAINUI-O-MATA SCHOOL.
. <! The annual picnic of the Wainui-o-mata School was held on Mr. J. Burrows s property, and the children and tiieir friends turned out in full force. Rewards tor diligence, with special prizes, for regu.ar attendance, were distributed to the scholars. Mr. Cowles, a retired teacher, who has had temporary charge of the school for the past quarter, made the presentations. He stated he had been agreeably impressed bv the up-to-date appearance of the new school and teachers residence, and the school garden. Thes/j were evidence of the interest displayed by the committee, the parents, and the. teachers in the welfare uf the school. This enthusiasm also extended to the pupils. Ihey had a keen interest in nature study and elementary agriculture, which he hoped would lead them to value country lite, with its health, freedom, and independence. Mvrtle Scliirnack and i-'elma (.mstafson gained Standard VI proficiency certificates, and John Wood a standard VI competency certificate.
