MASTERTON NOTES.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) . Masterton, December 23. A line of 5000 fat wethers from the property of Messrs. W. and li. .Burling, of Pongaroa, will reach Masterton to-mor-row morning by the Wnngaehii Valley, and will be trucked to Wellington, ft is probably the largest draft that has ever left tho Pongaroa district for the freezing chamber. The shosp are of splendid quality, which is a testimony to the excellence of the pastures in the back-blocks this seaMr. Donald M'lvenzie, a well-known drover of this district, died yesterday morning at the age of 52 years. Deceased, who was a native of the IJast Coast, was a prominent athlete in his younger days. He managed the Blairlogie fetation lor some time. A branch of tho Education Defence League will probably be formed here at an early date. ... Mr. James M'Gregor, sen., who met with a painful accident some weeks back, has sufficiently recovered to bo ablo to get about again. ~..,» The chief attractions in this district for Boxing Dav will be the race meeting at Clarevillo, ttio amateur sports at Masterton, ond sports meetings at Maunceville, Mangatainoka, and Martinborough.
