The weather was fine; to-<!ay for. the. match between the South Melbourne and Wairarapa Cricket Club, which was played on the I'a'rk Oval. -The pitch was,m : good order, nml , there was a fair attendance of the public. 'The visitors, were enptnineil by Jtorry Trott, jvho:.won the_toss and sent Wairarapa to the wickets.; \Vai-raTapa-.miuSe R poor display, against the bowling"of Giller, JCyle, and.Aeiinr, Giller,, who bowled remarkably well, took .four wickek for 34 runs, Kyle two for 25, and Kenny three* for i.- The most successful batsman for Wairarnpa was Collins,.who compiled 20 by careful cricket. Congdon (12) and Jordan (10) were.the only others to register double figures. The.innings 'ciosEil'for 67:- The fielding of the visitors was-remarkably gaoA, even allowing for the fact that several chances were missel. ■- South Melbourne knocked up 217 for the less of eight wickets, when, stumps .were drawn for , the day. The splendid old veteran, '■ Harry Trott, was dismissed first- ball. : Of - ■ the v other . "iuvaders," Sykes gave a very fine display of all-round cricket, his driving being 'particularly good. Scott played .a splendid innings, his score including, six fours. H. De'as; also gave an attractive exhibition, while Kyle played vigorously and made 'the most attractive display ot the whole of th« visitors.
