LAND AGENTS REGISTRATION.
[ DIFFICULTY UNDER THE ACT. (By Tolezrajh.—Press Association.) Pahiatua, December 17. An interesting position, has arisen localally regarding the registration of land agents under tho Act passed last session. Tho Act comes into force on January I and a number of land agents applied to the local Court to.be registered uridsrit, but no bands have been given, as tho forms being prepared by the Justice Department, have not yet conie to hand. When tho question' was raised in tha local Court to-day tho magistrate. Mr. L. Reid; 'said that as the Act did not come into force until January 1 he failed to see what jurisdiction the Court had. Ho thought it very improbable that the Department would prosecute if an agent was not registered by January 2. Hepointed out that there was apparently no provision for taking applications for registration before January I. 'The roll of registered agents was mqde up to January 15,' but he had thought a mistake had been made in- fixing it at that date for the first year, and thought it would have been better if tho date had been made, say, February 15. Tho local lawyers emphasised the importance of tho matter on behalf of tho local laud agents, and at the magistrate's suggestion application will, be made for registration at the first available Court' sitting, probably at Masterton, after tho holidays.
