e—- —• THE COMMISSION OF INQUIRY. In accordance with tie promise made to Parliament Inst session by the Minister in charge of the Public Trust Office, tho Hon. A. L. Herdman, the Government have set up a commission to inquire into the working of the Publio Trust Office. The members of the commission are Mr. Alexander Macintosh, of. Wellington, superintendent of Dalgoty and Co., Ltd., and Mr: J. H. Hosking,'K.C.,of Dunedin, They are to commence their inquiry early in January of .next year. "The order of reference has not been settled yet," said the Hon. A. L. Herdlnan to a Dominion reporter yesterday, "but the commission is to inquire into and report upon the working of the Publio Trust Office generally, and in particular to ascertain whether estates in the hands of the Public Trustee are efficiently administered, whether moneys controlled by the Public Trustee are profitably invested, whether the realisations of estates_ are properly conducted, whether the affairs o! the Native race' entrusted to the Publio Trustee are carefully and satisfactorily managed, whether the system of bookkeeping and accountancy adopted bjf. tho Public Trustee is satisfactory and in accordance with proper business methods, and whether the office is well and sufficiently staffed. They will also be instructed generally to investigate and report npon, any nrntters coming under their notice in the course of their- inquiry, and to make, any suggestions , which in their opinion would tend to the dTeater efficiency of the Publii? Trust Office."
