annual meeting. Tho annual meeting of the Women Students' Hostel Society was held yesterday afternoon in the managers' room at St. John's Church. Mr, J. G. W. Aitken presided, in the absence of the Anglican Bishop of .Wellington .(Dr. Sprott), who forwarded an apology. As provided by the constitution of the society, a council was elected for the ensuing year consisting of. five members, representing the Church of England,-and an equal number representing the Wellington Presbytery. Following is the membership of the ney council:—Mesdaimes.Salmond, Martin, 'Harper, and Eichmond, and Dr. Agnes Bennett (Church of England); Mesdamea Gibb, Gill, Elliott, and Shirer, and Miss Holmes (Presbyterian Church). • • , Mr. J. G. W. Aitken was elected president, and the I?ev, W. Shirer was reelected secretary. I . Tho outgoing council stated in its annual report that the debit balance of the society now stands 'at .£IBBO. Its assets are valued .at £3352. The demand for accommodation is yearly increasing, the hostel is full for next year, and the council has already had. to. refuse seven students. It is anticipated that ten or 'moro applications will have to be refused next year. The health standard has been food throughout the year, with the exception of ah epidemic of influenza and a few cases of mumps. Gratitude, is expressed to the principal (Mrs. Thornton), for her kindly care of the students acconimodated at tho hostel; The standard of work, it is stated, has been excellent, and the record of honours promises soon to overflow the honours board. Tho social life of the hostel has been more confined to- students themselves, and the' council welcomes this chance on the uround - that the rather ronstant demand for outsiders in the early years of the hostel not pltocofcher conducive to nui-st stwlv and li»aHhy hom-s of sleen. The council records its gratitude to its ■office-bearers for tho year.
