0 PROFESSORIAL CONFERENCE'. ' Professor Seagar, of Auckland, has been elected president of the professors' 'conference, opened at Victoria Collego yesterday. It was decided that tho procedings of the conference would not be open to the press. The object of the conference is' to consider, proposals in regard to tho B.A. degree. Proposals for alteration havo been submitted by Canterbury,and Wellington,.on tho one hand,, find;.b.v the Otago Professorial Board on tho other. Tho method on which degreo examinations shall: be : conducted will also be discussed. The proposals of the Otago Professorial Board, which' submits a scheme modifying existing regulations with tho express idea of meeting "the present dissatisfaction with the degree courses," contain no suggestioii-for alteration in the present system'of appointing Homo examiners. They embody, however, a recommendation that' professors should send to tho examiner in England lists of the marks '.by their students in terms examinations, these lists being accompanied by copies of the examination papers, and, if desired, by comments on tho work of individual students.
