A WADESTOWN-NGAIO LINK.

BRIDGING THE KAIWARBA STREAM. The. project of constructing a bridge across the Kaiwarra Stream, to connect Ngaio with Wadestown, was informally discussed last evening at a meeting held in the Methodist Churchroom at Ngaio, and attended by between sixty and sevouty ratepayers. Mr. £'. Holdsworth (Mayor of Onslow) presided, and explained that the meeting had been called with the object of obtaining a general expression of opinion from tho ratepayers of the Ngaio Ward as to whether or not they favoured the project. A number of, Wadestown ratepayers were present by invitation. The proposal was" discussed very fully, opponents of the soheme taking an active part. Mr. Canvell Cooke, of Wadestown, and Mr, E. Wylie (president of tho Wadestown Ratepayers' Association) both addressed the meeting, and contended that Wadestown would bear a very fair' share of the'expense involved in'providing 'the bridge if it purchased the approach on the Wadestown side. • Tha Wadestown speakers also pointed.out that the Wadestown people had already provided the trams on which Ngaio people would r-d& if the proposal to build the bridge were carried into effect. Ngaio residents also spoke for and against tho proposal, and the following motion was carried by 31 votes to 14, Councillor Lynneberg moving, and Mr. Hampden seconding:— "That this meeting of Ngaio ratepayers is in favour of a bridge being built over, tho Kaiwarr.a Stream, to connect ' with Wadestown, and urge 3 the council to bring it before the ratepayers at an early date, provided that the City Council pro- . vide the.land needed on the Wadestown side of the bridge, free of cost." *. . . ■■ An amendment that the matter be" postponed for twelve months was previously, defeated by a large majority.
