At a largo and representative' meeting of tho Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Locomotivo Engine-drivers', Firemen's, and Cleaners' Association, the following resolution was carried unanimously in regard to tho statements of the presidont 'and secretary of tho A.S.R.S. :— "After listening to tho explanations of tho offioers of our union, this branch strongly resents tho notion of tho president and secretary of tho A.S.E.S. in giving utterance to suoh misleading statements in regard to the actions of our council, while interviewing tho Minister for Railways in regard to granting increases to firemen, such misleading statements deserve to be strongly resented by every unionist in Now Zealand as being circulated for the express purpose of trying to raise, discord in the Tanks of a highly-organised and successful union. Thia branch also desires to convey to their council its entire confidence in tho officers of-their union, and to thank them heartily for their best efforts in securing improved wages for the oleaners, firemen, and drivers." It was explained by the officers that tho statements mado regarding tho increases to firemen, and tho action of themselves beforo tho Minister in regard to tho same, were absolutely without foundation, and tho officers challenged tho president and secretary of the A.S.R.S. to prove their' statements.
