Vice-Regai. His Excellency the Governor is to be farewelled by the members of the Wellington Club at a dinner to be held this evening. At 1 p.m. to-day .ho w.ill be the guest of honour at ifhe New Zealand Club's luncheon.' On Thursday evening the citizens of Wellington will tender his Excellency a farewell in the Town Hall, and on -the following day Lord and Lady Islington will leavq for Auckland, en route to England. , The Hon. Joan Dickson-Poynder, daughter of their Excellencies, left Sydney for England, in charge of her governess, by the Otway, on November 9. , ' Mr. Arthur. Guise, private secretary to his Excellency, and Mrs. Guise leave Auoklnndfor Canada and England on December 20. Mr. and Mrs. Guise will stay about a month in Canada, where they have many friends. ' It is expected that the Governor-desig-nate, Lord Liverpool, will arrive in Wellington on Wednesday, December 18. The Prime Minister is at Auckland, where he is'to be entertained to-night at a citizen's reception. Other Ministers, who are in will ;l attend the function are the Hon. W, Hemes (who left by the mid-day express yesterday), the Hon. Jas. Allen, the Hon. R. H. Rhodes, and the Hon. Dr. Pomare. The Hon; 'W. Fraser is at Dunedin. The only Cabinet Ministers in Wellington to-day are the Hon. A. L. Herdman and the Hon. H. D. Bell. The Hon. IV M. B. Fisher left last evening for Dunedin, where he is to open an industrial exhibition. He expects to return to Wellington about Tuesday next. . "Major-General Godley will leave Hobart for the Bluff next Friday, and will reach Wellington on December 1. Bishop Sadlier,'' of Nelson, is the guest of Bishop Sprott during his present visit to Wellington. Sir Joseph Ward visited the Bluff yesterday. He has postponed his departure for a week.—Press Association, The Rev. Henry Howard, superintendent of the Adelaide Central Mission, is to visit Wellington shortly. Mr. Howard arrived hi Auckland last Monday, and is now on his way to Wellington by way of Rotorua and the Wanganui River. He is to speak at the Wellington Central Mission service on Sunday next, and later on ho will open the new Central Mission Rooms in Dunedin. A' very pleasant function took, place yesterday at the prinoipal office of the United Insurance Company, when tho staff presented the manager (Mr. J. S. Jameson) with, a handsome silver-mounted Malacca walking-stick in commemoration of the jubilee of the company, a:ad as a token of the high esteem in which ho is held by tho staff. The presentation - was made by. Mr. H. T. H. Grave, the chief inspector of the company, who, in a felicitous speech, referred to tho cordial spirit that existed between the staff and their chief, and exprssed the hope that Mr. Jameson would be long spared to guide tho destinies of the "United" in the Dominion, assuring him of the unswerving loyalty and cooperation of every momher of the staff. In thanking tho staff for the gift, Mr. Jameson ■stated that, although this practical expression of the oordial feeling existing between them came as a great surprise to him, yet the pleasure of being associated/ with a stuff, whose loyalty to duty ho bad povcr questioned, was greater even than the aurpriso, and ho felt sure that every officer would continue to.give tho samo attention to business us they had hitherto done. This had been liberally recognised by' tho directors in granting a bonus of 10 per cent, on their salaries. He thanked tho staff most heartily for the gift, and ho trusted they would bo long spared to be associated with iono another and the company that has just closed 50 years of successful underwriting, and which occupies tho proud position of being ono of Hie leading insurance companies in Australasia.
