SPORTS PROTECTION LEAGUE.

A meeting of the Board of Control of the Sports Protection League was held last week. Sir George Clifford occupied the chair, and there were present: The Hon. Dr. Collins, Messrs. C. P. Skerrott. C. W. Tringham, and the secretary (Mr. Paape). Messrs. I. G. Duncan and J. H. B. Coales were unavoidably absent. Tho Hon. E. Mitchelson, Auckland district president, forwarded a full statement of affairs in that district which was received, and the secretary was directed to comply with certain requirements. Reports and> letters were received from various branches and dealt with. The secretary reported that sinco last meeting of the board the work of organisation has been continued in tho Auckland, Otago, and Southland districts. Seventythree branches of Hie leagno had been established in tho principal centres in the Dominion with the exception of the following towns in this province: Masterton, Feathorston, Pnhiatua, Otaki, Carterton, and Wdodville, ;wliero meetings will be held in the' immediate future. It was now nearly twelve months since the work of organisation was undertaken, and during that-period, he had travelled 18,048 miles. Tho special committee (Messrs. C. P. Skerrett, K.C., C. W. Tringham, A. E. Whyte) appointed for the purpose of altering the constitution had completed their work and their report was presented to the meeting. The principal alterations and additions defined the policy of tho league and the procedure to be taken at elections. Tlio membership was divided into three classes (a) members contributing 2s. Gd. and receiving a badge; (b) members contributing Is. not receiving a badge, but entitled to all the -privileges including the right to vote; (c) honorary members by whom no subscription is payable, but who are not entitled to vote or hold office. Tho Board of Control is to consist of seven members in lieu of five by making provision for a vice-presi-dent and the lion, treasurer is to' be cxofficio a member. All questions not provided for by the rules are to be referred to and dealt with by the board who mayrefer the question, to any branch or branches with authority to act. Provision is made for the annual nomination and ' election of the Board of Control by each branch having the right to -nominate and vote in Jieu of districts at present provided and which is abolished. Vacancies on the board may be filled by the remaining members until the next election. Now that the work of organisation is practically complete the secretary suggested that a conference representative of the branches be held at Wellington to defino a definito course of action for tho future operations of the league. The report was received and tho matter of holding a conference was approved., but further consideration was deferred until next meeting. The Hon. Dr. Collins brought up a proposal with regard to the Olympic Games to be held at Berlin in 1910. He thought, that tho league should advocate tho suggestion of British representation in lieu of the various-parts of the Empire competing separately as at present. Ho expressed the opinion that the league- should confer with the Olympic Committee with a view to deciding on a definite basis of action. It was decided to recmest that the president of the Olympic Committee. Mr, A. A. Marrvatt, should confer with the Hon.
