The chief scorers for the afternoon were Sneddon 51, Collins 01, not out, Kavanogh til—all of the l'onsonby Club. Christchurch, October 27. In consequence of the weather, all cricket, bowling, and tennis matches sat down tor Saturday were postponed. SYDNEY FIGHT STOPPED. By TeloeraDh—Press Association—Cooyriehl (Rec. October 27, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, October 27. In a twenty-round contest between Midwood nud do Balzac, a Frenchman, the latter in the eighth round attempted to bump his opponent's chin. The fight was stopped and awarded to Millwood.
HARRIERS.
The Brooklyn Harriers.held an enjoyable smoko concert at Godber's room's, Courtonay Place, on Saturday evening, and the presentation pf prizes took place. About forty members and friends attended. The president, Mr. R. A. Wright, occupied the chair, and was supported bv the vice-president, Mr. W. H. Philp. anil Messrs. Hodson (captain), P. A. Wilton (jiandicappcr), and L. Cooko (delegate). The various toasts were' as follow:—"The Club," proposed by Mr. H. Philp, and responded to by Mr. F. Hodson; "Other Harrier Clubs," proposed by Mr. P. A. Wilton, and responded ' to by Mr. ,T. T. Don; "Kindred Sports," proposed by Mr. Hodson. and responded to by Mr. Blick (on behalf of swimming), Mr'. Coker (riflemen), and Mr.' T. Jenkins (rowing); "Wellington Centre," proposed by Mr. W. 11. Philp, and responded to by Mr. L. Cooko; "The Handicapper," proposed by Mr. P. Oliver, and responded to by Mr. P. A. Wilton; "The Veterans," proposed by Mr. F. Hodson. and responded (o bv Mr. Ballantyne; "The i Prjze-Winncrs,'' proposed by Mr. P. A. Wilton, and responded to by Messrs. C. Murray, P. Oliver, and E". B. Smith; "Trophy Donors and Land Owners," proposed by Mr. lv. A. Wright, and responded to by Mr. L. Cooke. A vote of thanks was pissed to the following for services rendered during (ho evening:—Messrs. THE LYALL BAT CLUB. Dsspito the boisterous weather that prevailed en Saturday afternoon a number of enthusiastic members of the Lyall Bay Surf Club journeyed out to the bay to assist at the opening of the season. Mr. J. E. Atkins, the club's president unil chairman of the Wellington Centre, N.Z.A.S.AP, in formally doctoring the season as open, expressed the hope that the cominfr swison would be favoured with better weather than last season. The programme drawn Tip for the afternoon could not lie carried out,' there being no room on the beach, the water being very tough, and the big rollers coming right up to the breastwork. However, a number of the seasoned swimmers took a "dip" in tho suging surf—not a pleasurable swim, as it turned out, for some of them had a rough time of it.
\ AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
THE WELLINGTON CENTRE. The Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association concluded the year ended September 30, 1912, with a small credit balance, a state of affairs which the lion, secretary (Mr. G.' A. Scott.) declares in his annual report to be very satisfactory,' considering tho heavy expenditure (£ib) incurred in sending the centre's team to Invercargill for the Now Zealand championships, and the small attendance at the Provincial championship meeting. The secretary records the thanks of his centre to Mr. R. W. M'Villy for his donation of one shield and promise of another, and to tho Y.M.C.A. for placing a room at the disposal of the centre for meetings during the year. Messrs. AV. H. Pollock and B. L.' Guise are' thanked for their promised donation of challenge cups. There were nineteen affiliated clubs during tho past season, two more than in (lie previous year. During the season six new clubs were affiliated: The Senloim A.A.C., the. Central Harriers, the Feilding Harriers, tho Masterton Harriers, the Palmerston North Harriers, and Levin A.A.C.; while three clubs have practically ceased to exist, viz., Hawern A.A.C, N"w Plymouth'A.A.C, and tho Southern llawke's Bay Public Schools A.A. Association.
