WAIHI NEWS NOTES.
— e ONE MORE THEEAT. (Us Telesranh-Presa Association.) Auckland, October 25. It is reported from Huntly that as a probable result of tho conference of the edoration executive with tho Miners' Union executive the Taupiri Coal Company will be asked to remstato the dismissed union executive, the men to resume work on the footing previously existing; failing this, the union will call out the engine-drivers, and declare a state of strike at Huntly, at the same time calling out the coal miners throughout the Dominion. Tho "Star" reporter on the spot expresses the opinion that less drastic proposals will be made. MR. SEMPLE AT lIUNTLY. Auckland, October 25. Messrs. Webb and Semple, representing the executive of the Federation of Labour, arrived at Huntly this morning, and were met by a big crowd at the railway station. Mr. Semple, in a speech, admitted tho extrcmo gravity of the situation generally, but hoped an honourable settlement would be carried out. In the meantime the federation was being unjustly assailed by tho employers and workers, and an action lor heavy damages for libel was being taken against tho federation. The seriousness of tho position was tho federation executive's excuse for not meeting the men sooner, but he assured them that they had no fear of meeting them. He and Mr. Webb would meet tho miners' executive in conference today, and the report of their deliberations would be given to a meeting to-morrow. He felt suro the men would admit that an honest endeavour was being made to settle trouble in an honourable way. At the conclusion of his speech Mr. Semplo was cheered. THE REVOLVER. Waihl, October 25. A man named Robert Manning, ivho was arrested yesterday for assault arising ( out oS tiio TovoH'er incident in a train at Paeroa on Monday last, appeared in Court this morning, and was remanded to appear at the Paeroa Court on October 30. THE OBE OUTPUT. Waihi, October 25. The number of men now working underground in tho Waihi mine totals CB. Tho ore sent to the crushing mill now exceeds 400 tons per day. Each day fresh bauds are employed.
