The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., aud Reduced, and Mes-irs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., in conjunction, report:—The fifth annual cattle fair, on recount of Mr. R. A. M'Kenzie, was held at Palmerston North on Tuesday, October 22. The cattlo wero- all well-bred station lines, 3700 head being penned. As in the past they were well drafted, and every beast was penned up by 9 a.m. There was a very large attendance of buyers, visitors tring present from all parte of tho Dominion. Good prices were realised throughout, and we have to report a most successful sale. (By TelczraDh— Press Association.) Chrls.tch.urch, October 13. At Addington live stock market there wore moderate entries of stock and a fair attendance. Tho entries wero reduced by wet weather. The market opened at lower rates, hut improved as it went on. . Ou tho whole, it was- weaker than last week. Store sheep sold well, only a few lines beine offered. Fat lambs again sold well as did fo-t sheep, both classes being in shorter supply. Store cattle were in good demand, and pigs wero unchanged inprice. ■ Only a very small number of store sheep were penned, hoggets forming the bulk of the yards, the balance being made up ot a pen of four and six-tooth wethers, and a pen of merino ewes. The attendance wo* moderate. Prices showed no change from tho previous week. Quotations are:—Hog gets, mixed sexes, 13s. to 20s. 3d.; weaners 10s. 3d. to 16?. 9d.; wethers, 14s. 3d. to 15s. ewes in wool, 15s. Id.; aged owes in wool. Bs. to 10s Od. There were only 62 fat lnmlis penned, and they were as Ue-unl of prime finality, and met with keen competition, only one lot ot thirteen selling at. less than 20s. Besl lombs made 2Ci?. 6d. to 265„ and lighter 16*. to 2Cj. There was a somewhat smaller yarding of fat, sheep than laM. week, and It was made up of about equal proportions of woolly and shorn sheep of average quatitt There was anain a good sale. It opened well, prices being firmer for both wooliv and shorn sheep by flbout Is. to Is. 6:1. The supply was barely'sufficient for butchers' requirements. At tbe beginning of the sale prices were easier than a. week earlier, but improved as the sale proceeded,'but in spit* of this the average price was Is. per 10011), below those ruling on October lb Beef made 275. 6d. to 355. per 1001b., accord mg to quality. The entry of store cattle wa6 a medium one, and.consisted principally of 15 to 18month sorts, and two-year-olds. There was considerable inquiry for good cattle, but few that could be thus classified came forward. The demand for all descriptions wa,s free, and a good clearance was made. Fifteen to eighteen-month sorts realised £3 ss. to £4 ss.r two-year steers, £5 55.; two and a- half-year steers, £5 17s. 6d.; threeyear heifers, £5 75.; and dry cows, £1 17s. 6d. to £4 fe. Dairy cows sold at £4 ss. to £9 10s. There was a medium entry of fat pigs. The demand showed, no marked change from the previous week, except porkers, which were a shade easier all round. Choppers realised £3 10s. to- £6 Is.:' heavy baconers, 655. to 725. Gd.; and lighter ports, 525. 6d. .to 60s. (or equal to sd. to 5Jd. per lb.). Heavy porkers brought 4x*. to and lighter sorts,' 37.?. to 445. (equal to 51d. per lb.). Tho supply of stores was rather in 'excess of requirements, consequently prices wore somewhat easier. Larzo stores changed hands at <-Ss. to 595.; medium, 3Ci=. to <os.: small pigs. 20s. to 28?.; small wcaners, Ms. upwards; extra good making to V.i. BURNSIDE MARKET. Duncdln, October 23. - At Burnside to-day 147 fat cattle were yarded, consisting principally of medium to heavy-weight bullocks. The quality on the whole was good. Prices were slightly in advance of last week's rates.
