By the Whakatane, which aTrivcd during the week, another large consignment of ma* chihery aud casing was received for tho Herman- Weger Manufacturing Co. This company has the contract for horing wells on the property of tho Mangaone Oilfields Co., and drilling operations on Mr. Frank White's property at Tane, near Eketahuna. is to he commenced on Thursday afternoon. October 31. The casing is now being railed out to Eketahuno. and the quality of the casing is said to be exceptionally good. - Customs duties collected at the port of Wellington j-esterday amounted to £3708 4s. sd. - MEAT MARKET. Messrs. Gilbert Anderson and Co. (Mcssr. Mellsop, Eliott, and Co., local agents), in their weekly report, dated London, September 13, state:—Trade is rather restricted on account of high prices, but on the whole tho demand is fair. ITome-grown: Supplies have been more plentiful, especially Dutch, and prices are- a shade lower. Beef, 6d. to B}d.; mutton, 6d. to 73d.; tegs, 6id. to Bd.; ewes, 4jd. to 51d. (Dutch mutton, sid. to 6jd.l. Lamb.?, 63d. to Bd.; Scotch hill lambs, 6d; to fijdj (Dutch lambs, 6d. to 7d.). Pork, 7d. to 7*d. Veal, Bd. to 9d. Chilled beef:, Rather firmer, with better demand for fores. Hinds, 4Jd.: fores, 3 3-Bd. Frozen beef: New Zealand fores remain 3jd.; hinds. 1-lfid. dearer, 3 15-16 d.; Australian, 3 3-16 d. and 33d.; Plate, 3 U6d. and 315-16 d, Frozen mutton: All classes are dearer. Canterbury, 48-56 and 56-64, 4 11-16 d, 64-72, 4 9-16 d.; best North Island and Southland, 4Sd. to 4jd.; ordinary, about the same; ewes, 4Jd.: .Australians, 40-50, 4Jd.: and ewes, 30-50, the same; Plate, 4 3-Bd.; no ewes. Frozen lamb: The real lamb season is over now, and sales have already fallen off 75 per cent., as compared with June, but prices are the same—or firmer—in consequence of corresponding short supply.
