BOMBARDMENT OF VARNA.
GREAT DAMAGE:REPORTED. POPULATION FLEEING. Sofia, October 22. After three and a half hours' bombardment the garrison at Kavarna, a port on the Black Sea coast, 28 miles north-east by east of Varna, prevented tho Turks landing. The garrison, a small one, kept up a very hot fire. Later the Turkish cruisers bombarded the Euxinograd Barracks and the monastery of St. Catherine at Varna. Shells fell on the Children's Home. Wherever the Red Cross flag was flying small damage was done. Bulgaria protests that Kavarna is an unfortified place, and that the bombardment of it by the Turks was a flagrant' violation of The Hague Convention. Bukarest, October 22. The Turks bombarded Varna on Monday. The shells did great damage. Tlia inhabitants are terror-stricken, and ore fleeing to Rumania. Constantinople, October 22. The story of the silencing of tho Varna forts is officially discredited. The warships merely bombarded the barracks.
