ON THE RIVER STRUMA.
TURCO-BULGARIAN ENCOUNTERS. . MASSACRE REPORTED. Sofia, October 23. The Bulgarian force, which is advancing into Macedonia down tho valley of tho Struma River took three Turkish field pieces and HO prisoners outside Djumaia Bala, a village five miles over the border. They also captured Kirk Janli end a Turkish detachment. ', The war correspondent of the Sofia paper "Mir" declares that the Turks at Girueno, near Xotchana (35 miles southwest of Djumaya), bade Bulgarian peasants lie on the ground, and then shot 117 in cold Wood. SURPRISE IN A PASS. (Rec'October 23,11.15 p.m.) Sofia, October 23.' . A Turkish force advancing to relieve Djumaia Bala entered tho Kresna Pass, unaware that it was occupied by two thousand insurgents, who blew up tho bridge over the River Struma* at tho foot of the pass. Confusion followed, and many Turks were drowned. A thousand officers and men, three Krupp guns, and oue icachine gun were captured. Voivoidadontchs, the so-called "King of tho Perim Mountains," which lie to the east of the Struma River, carried out tho exploit. TURKISH VERSION. (Rec. October 23, 9.15 p.m.) Constantinople, October 23. It is officially stated that several thousand Bulgarian irregulars in tho Djumaia Bala district (otherwise Jumaya) concentrated in the Kresna Pass, and burnt the villages, to prevent the Turkish approach.
The Turks surrounded tho bands, which have been practically exterminated.
