A LEGAL OPINION.
ABOUT A BUILDING CONTRACT. (By Tclegraph.-Press Association.') Dunedin. October 23. A meeting of the Technical School managers was held to-day to consider tho position which has arisen with reference to tho contract for the new building. Tho board recently accepted a tender for ,£30,999 for tho erection of the new school, and rejected a tender for .£30,059. Subsequently the question arose as to whether the meeting was properly constituted, and legal advice was sought on this point. At to-day's meeting a legal opinion was received from Messrs. W. C. Macgrpgor and J. V. Womlhouse, who expressed tho view that tho meeting at which the tender was nccepted was illegal, on the ground that one member at the meeting had forfeited his seat owing to non-attendance at previous meetings, and another manager did not receive notice of the meeting. Consequently they advised that the acceptance of tho tender was not binding on tho board. It was moved that the lowest tender, that of Mr. M'Lcllan, be accepted, but an amendment was carried-referring tho matter to a subcommittee of four, to report at next meeting.
