CENTRAL DAIRY CO.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchurch, October 15.. The annual report of the directors of the Central Dairy Company, to be presented at the meeting of shareholders on October 26, states that the balance for tho year, including tho balance brought forward (.£1361 lfs. 9d.) from last year, was £7558 9s. (id., which the directors recommend should be dealt with as follows:—To pay the usual 6 per cent, dividend, £785; to write off buildings and machinery at creameries, .£1171; to write off buildings and machinery at factory, .£396; a bonus to suppliers of id. per lb. on butter-fat supplied during the year, £3981; to pay bonus of 5 per cent, on wages and salaries to those employees not affected by any award of the Arbitration Court, .£94; the balance to be carried forward to next year. All bonuses unclaimed tnv March 31, 1913, would be - deemed forfeited to the company. The total milk supply received for the year was 48,528,1401b. -The total cream supply' received for the year was 405,5461b. The average price paid to suppliers had been 12.39 d., and with the proposed bonus of Id. per lb., would mako the price for the year over Is. Ojd: per lb. of butter-fat. The butter manufactured was 2,217,3931b., or 989.90 tons, an increase of 58.37 tons on the previous year. Export shipments amounted to 29< tons, the balance (G92 tons) being required for local consumption. The quantity of milk taken to make one pound of butter was 23.5. The present indications' for the coimne season were for a good supply and high prices. There are many who maintain that the supplier of milk'to a cheese factory can only obtain tho very best results by using the- Holstein-Friesian sire in the herd. Tho numwous sales and the prices realised at tho disposal of tho representatives of this breed, certainly go to prove this contention. Tho Wairarapa Show has entries in this section that will certainly attract tho dairy-farmer from all parts, for tho variety of herds, and it is claimed that tho choice afforded will bo unequalled at any of this year's shows.

Eight buyers, including four from Hie South Island, will be operating in the Wairarapa this season (states our correspondent). It is.stated that high prices will be paid for stock at Hie opening of tho season. Oilers of lls. nro being mnde for lambs- and ewes, and between 17s. and 18s. for wethers, off shears. The Mtwterton Horticultural Society hits decided to hold a roso and sweet pea show next month.
