ONSLOW COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Onslow Borough Council was held last eyening, the Mayor (Mr. I<YHoldsiyorth)'presiding. Councillors B. Lvnneberg, J. C. Gardner, F. Bates, E. S. Stafford, CJ. W. Darvall, C. Aplin, junr., li. W. Dingwall, and C. M'Arthur were also present. The Minister for Railways wrote statin? that the expenditure of JC7SO on the erection of « subway oil the north end of the Ngaio Station platform' (as a'sked for) was not at present warranted. The Minister for Railways also wrote regarding representations made by tho deputation from the council recently, urging that the land belonging to the Hallway Department near Kaiwarra should lie handed over to the' Labour Department oil which to build workers' dwellings. The Minister said that, on inquiry being made, it had been found that the land was purchased in I'JOG for Oie purpose of procuring filling for the carrying out_ 9f the greater reclamation at the Ivaiwarra Bi»ht, which %as then in contemplation. Although reclamation was not at present being proceeded with, the land would ultimately be required, and. after giving the matter every consideration, the 'Mmister said that be could not adopt the deputation's suggestion. A letter was received from the Post-master-General stating that at present it was not possible to establish an afternoon delivery tiv letter-carrier in the Jvhaijdallah ami Ngaio districts, as the vol--ume of correspondence did not warrant it. The Department had purchased a section for the purpose of erecting a post office, situated so as to serve both the districts mentioned.
