Time, loiin. 4~i-ssec. NOTES ON THE RACING: IBv Telegraptt-Sn.ecial Correspondent.) Masterton, October 17. There was a good attendance at,' Ojiakl to . witness " the Spring - meeting. Fino weather prevailed till" just' before four o'clock, wnen a light shower fell. Undecided had a very easy win in'the Cup, and several of the other horses gained their stakes without undue 'exertion, owing to tho tactics displayed 'by some-of the riders of the other horses. Tho totalisator was not staffed to ' the best advantage, and a lot of money was shut out during the afternoon, while the paying-out was very slow." ' There was a big field in tho Trial 'Stakes, but .no .bqther was experiinced with them at tho barrier, and tho start was a gocd one. At the outset there was a _ little bumping, , and : Expect and Operation went back a bit. The Rototawa ,gelding, Exertion, was soon in front, but Expect had him two furlongs 'from home, and though Exertion stuck well to his work Expcct rame oil and won easily. Secret Link was the last to leave the maA, but she put in" a good run, and got fourth, a head behind Otter. "VVarlight, who' was well fancied,'got badly away, and finished out of a place.

Merton and Imagination divided machine honours in the Telephone Handicap. The latter was ridden by Dceley, who shewed that he had lost none of ability in the saddle. At the start King's Favourite led by a. couple of lengths from Merton, but once the field was in- the long straight Deeley brought Imagination out of tho ruck, and she won nicely. Ladinq was a fair third. The winner is looking very forward just, now, and. has apparently done ivell during tho winter. Leapuki had a very easy win in the Flying Handicap; in which Longstep wheeled round at tho barrier rise anil took no part in the race. Winning Post was soon out in front, but Leapuki had his measure at the end of two furlongs, and from that point lie was never seriously troubled. Blue Luke and Thrave were well clear of the remainder of the field. The latter finished on well after getting a - bad bump at the half-mile post. He appears to be a horse that would get over ten furlongs well. The betting was heavy in the Cup, and several of the runners were well supported. The exhibitions given by some of the riders were oil. a par with what might be expected of apprentioes, and ■there was a lot of bustling throughout the race. Master Laddo was prominent till the straight, where Undecided cameround on the outside nnd scored in a, most decisive maimer, Mira got i chopped back at the six furlongs' post, but lie came through again, and eventually got second place," just a head in front of Master Laddo. The Rover was fourth, and Bonnie Boy next. Bally Shannon was prominent for a mile, but he fell back beaten when pressure was applied. Ngatiniaru got a very bad run, and was stopped several times, and a similar experience befel Sinapis.' On the day the dividend payers ' were the corrcct horses to support. Tho Bracelet turned out t(> be the best of good things' for Fashion Plate, who scored decisively from Manitau, with Bravest a. head in front ot Himitangi. The winner was a hot favourite, and down the back she dropped in behind Black Reef, who led the field. At the Txittom of tho straight Mamtau joined the favourite, but the latter given her head shij/'won very easilr. she was ridden by Mr. Lindsay Maodonald, and after the race he was presented with a gold-mounted whip donated by Mrs. u F. Valknce, wife of the president of the C 'Black Lupin was the fourth favourite to score dnring tho .afternoon, his win Jeipß: accomplished in the 'eeven-furlongs Hack

[Race. Easy." was -the quickest to begin, but Black Lupin soon headed him, „aiul was not again caught. Easy was headed round the bcn<l by Wnrlight and Strategist, but tho Hastings maro finished better than tho others, and secured second money. Marima, who bore a very wasted appearance, was a hundred yards behind tlie others. When dispatching the Bold, the cord attached to the lever broke, end Starter O'Connor fell oIY his perch. Another favourite in Coromandel prevailed in tho Stewards' Handicap. Hilarian gave a lot of bother at the post, and got badly away, but Longstep was this time persuaded to leave the mark, and carrictl 011 the running with C'oromandel to the straight, where Tlirave and British Maid, who had been lying handy, eaino up. Coroinaiulel easily hold his own from Tlirave, who beat Sir Solo by a conplo of lengths. The latter was baclly placed in the first part of tho race, but ho finished on well. There was a lot of confusion in tho last event, and the totalisator was selling tickets after the start of- the race. Imagination won easily from Ladino and Merlon. There was an outcry from the public when a largo sum was rung on the winner after tho horses had passed the post, the delay being due no doubt to the faulty totalisator arrangements..
