When the White Star liner Olympic returns to Belfast after the close ot the summer season (says tile "Shipping World"), she will undergo important alterations, which will provide further accommodation for lirst-class passengers, and still further alterations considered desirable since the Titanic disaster. It is anticipated that the work will occupy 2000 or 3000 men working night and day shifts for about six months, and the cost is estimated to reach nearly a•'quarter of a million. Space will be taken from the promenade deck to provide 60 additional suites of rooms of a luxurious character. And, with a view to minimising the danger of sinking from collision, new side bunkers will be constructed. These will extend round the ship practically from the double bottom to above the water-line, and will, for all practical purposes, form an inner > skin.

The Aparima left Newcastle on Sunday with a cargo of coal for Java, whence she will proceed to Calcutta to load for New Zealand. .

There was a heavy flood in the Buller River yesterday, and a considerable sea on the bar. In consequence, the Komata, which wa? ready to sail Westport for Wellington, has been detained.

Oil account of October 28 being Labour Day, and a holiday, the deparUires of the Monowai for northern ports, and the Flora for Picton; Westport. and Grcyroouth, have been postponed until Tuesday, October 29. Both vessels leave Wellington on that day.

The Kahu will malte a call at Wellington for bunkers on Sunday, and will proceed to Pir?to*> on Monday to lead chaff for the Bast Coast.

The intercolonial liner Maunganui will be an early arrival in port from Lyttelton Ibis morning. She berths nt the Quen's Wharf JTo. 4, and sails for Sydney, direct at 5 p.m.

The Takapuna will .leave Wellington at 12.45 p.m. to-day for Piston and Nelson, in placc of the Patcena, The former vessel will relieve the latter during overhaul.

An the coastal steamer Av,*ahou was coming: up to her berth at the Wool Wharf yesterday afternoon 'she collided - with 11.M.5. Pioneer. Tho. man-o'-war's dinghy was slightly damaged, and the boat davits bent. The Awahou reeeived a cut in two plates well abpvc the water-line.
