A MARSDEN MEMORIAL.
NELSON BISHOPRIC ENDOWMENT. The Bishop of Nelson (die flight Rev. W. C. Sadlicr), in his address at flic opening of tlio Nelson Anglican Synod yesterday, said:— Tho most notable event of the financial year lias been tho bounteous offer of Miss Marsdcn, of Stoke, to present a sum of £6000 to tho Bishopric Endowment Fund in hallowed memory of hor mother ami sister. Miss Marsdcn desired that an additional sum of .£2OOO should bo raised froip other sources in order that tho income of tho bishopric might lie .CIOOO per annum, Our thanks are due to the Venerable Archdeacon Baker and the liov. J. P. Knmptliorne for their successful efforts in collecting the required sum. In July last, Archdeacon Baker handed over tho sum of XSOOO to tho Diocesan Trust Board with instructions that it should ba invested as the Marsdcn Memorial Endowment Fund. While a letter has been already sent by the chairman of tho Standing Committee to Miss Marsdcn thanking her for her munificent gift, I feel certain Hint the Synod will express to Miss Marsdon our grateful acknowledgment of her generosity. As the first occupant of the see who enjoys. the income from this fund, I desire personally and on behalf of my successors to convev to Miss Marsdcn our thankfulness, coupM with the assuranco that the income will he used not for selfish purposes, but for the benefit of the diocese and for the extension of the Kingdom of our Lord.
