THE MAIN TRUNK EXPRESS.
LATE ARRIVAL,
On account of tho succession of slips oa tho railway line between Horopito and Ohakune, tho relief express which picked 1 up the passengers, luggago, and mails on this side of the affected section, did not reach Wellington until 5.45 laßt evening, owing to the delay caused in transferring tho passengers by ooach. The railway authorities 6tato that thoro is just n possibility of the line being dearod to-day if tho weather holds good, and there aro no further earth-slides. A big gang is working night and day to restore through communication. Oii account of the change to the maiiroofn in the new part of the General Post Office, made yesterday, and the fact that the staff havo yet to get used to the "lav" of the private boxes, the sorting of the northern mail was delayed for some hours last evening. This may bo expected to improve in the oourse of a day or two.
