DEATH OF THE HON.J. MARSHALL
RESOLUTION OF CONDOLENCE. The Hon. W. F. Massey (Prime Minister) moved in the House of Representatives yesterday that the House record its high sense of appreciation of the services rendered to the country by tho late Hon. James Marshall, member of the Legislative Council since 1902, and that tho House express its sympathy with the deceased gentleman's family. Ho paid a high tribute to the useful work done as a legislator, as a member of local bodies, nnd as a pioneer settler on the West Coast by the late member. Sir Joseph .Ward, Mr. T. E. Y. Seddon, Mr. W. C. Buchanan,' and the Hon. R, M'Kenzio all added their tribute to the deceased member's honourable career. Tho motion was affirmed and at 3.30 tho House rose as a mark of respect to his memory. The death of Mr. Marshall was also referred to in the Legislative Council yesterday wlien it was decided on the motion of tho Hon. 11. D. Bell to place on record the Council's high senso of tho services rendered to the country by the deceased, and to tender to his widow and family tho sympathy of tho Council in their bereavement.
