Mr. Frank Stirling, who has been manager of the Adelphi Theatre since it opened, leaves for San Francisco to-day by the Aorangi, en routo to New York, where his wife is at present appearing in light opera. Since his return to England, the navigator of the Terra Nova has been promoted for his services in the Antarctic. Mir. A. H. T. Traversi has been appointed to be theI*actuary1 *actuary for the purposes of the National Provident Fund. Mr. Allan Morpeth has been appointed drainage engineer assistant to the Lands and Survey Department. Tho resignation by Mr. R. C. Kirk of his position as chairman of tho Hospital Committee of tho Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was received with general regret by members of the committee at the monthly meeting yesterday, eulogistic references being mode by various speakers to the valuable services rendered by him to the hospital during his-'-conncotion with hospital and charitable aid administration. A testimonial is to be presented to Mr. Kirk at an early date.

There was a largo attendance of members of the Vivian Street Baptist Church at the meeting held to consider what fiction tho Church should take in view of tho fact that the pastor (tho Rev. ,1. J. North) had received a call to Oxford Terrace Church, Christchnrch. Mr, Hoby presided, and in a short speech expressed tho hope that as a result of the meeting Mr. North would bo persuaded to remain in' Wellington for many years to come. Ho referred to tho ninny qualifications Mr. North had for the Work of tho Christian ministry, and his self-deny-ing zeal in the ■ sorvico of tho Church. His efforts on behalf of national righteousness were especially needed in our day. The necessity for retaining his services in tho interests of the moral welfare of tho city was emphasised. Resolutions, proposed by Mr. C. Cathie and Mr. T. H. Wilson, and seconded by' Mr. Townshend and Mr. East were carried expressing appreciation of the members of tho Church of the value of Mr. North's ministry and the importance of retaining his services in the Empire City. Theso were spoken to by Messrs. Purdie, Chant, Cathie, Moodie, Blackburn, Nicol, Mrs. Kirk, Mrs. Chant, and Miss Cnthio (on behalf of tho Church members), Mr. Auton (Y.M. Biblo Class), Miss Pees (Y.W. Bible Class), Mr. Palmer (Sunday School teachers), Mr. Collins (choir). A large deputation subsequently waited on Mr. North and conveyed the resolutions to him. Mr. North promised to give an answer this week.
