WANGANUI JOTTINGS.
(By Telceraph.-Bpcclal Correspondent.) Wanganui, October 8. During September the tramways carried 155,425 passengers, as against 117,401 during the same month last year, ihe total revenue was .€ll-16 Is. 4d., of which .£O3 16s. 7d. was received from the Gonville. Tramway Board as payment for power supply. The fares collected in the borough portion of the system amounted to ,£1049 Us. 111. The Gonville portion of the system continues to just-,,about hold its. On account of the .bad time which the road contractors have, had during the : past two or three months on tho Abu Abu road, when heavy rains caused many big slips, the Waitotara County Council has decided to-rclieve (hem of the maintenance period, and will take over their lengths as soon as the contract's aro finished. ; The "missing link" , in the Wanganui River road (west, bank), concerning which there has been so much agitation, is now in a fair way towards being bridged. Two and a. half miles of cap have been pegged off, and contracts will shortly Ik entered into for the formation. This will be a great relief to settlers, as the remaining one and a half miles passes over comparatively level country, and stock can, therefore,' be driven over it, so soon as thn two and a half mile section is formed. Once the latter is finished, steps will bo .taken to form' the shorter length, and a long-standing grievance of settlers will thus be completely removed.
