HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) _ « Hutt and Petone have of recent years been recognised as residential suburbs; of ■Wellington, and developments in this connection from the beginning of the year onwards seem to have been very satisfactory. A return just completed shows that, during the last nine months, in Petone, building permits to the total value of .£5400 have been issued, in addition to which amount thero ha.? been expended ■£10,000 on new buildings at the woollen mills, .£BOO at the Gear Meat Works, and .£2300 at the new fire station. This brings the total to At Lower Ilutt, for the same period, .£13,818 worth of building permits have been issued, and in- a few weeks a large picture theatro will be erected. The following is a summary of the vital statistics for Hntt and Petone for the quarter ending September 30:— Petone: Births 50, deaths 9, as against 42 births and 7 deaths for the corresponding quarter of 11)11. At Lower Hutt the figures for the September quarter were: —Births 30, deaths 8; and in the corresponding quarter in 1911 there were 38 births and C deaths.
