THE COADJUTOR ARCHBISHOP OF MELBOURNE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrfeh/ London, October 7. At Maynooth College, Cardinal Logue consecrated Dr. Mnnnix, president of tho College, Coadjutor Archbishop ■of Melbourne. Dr. Mannix has been appointed Coadjutor to the Most Rev. Dr. Carr, Archbishop of Melbourne. Referring to tho appointment, the "Catholic Times" (London) states:—lreland's loss is undoubtedly ' Australia's gain in the present case, for the island continent is obtaining the services] of one greatly distinguished for learning, ability, and devotion to his sacred ■ calling. During his nine years' presidency of Maynooth, the college which has always been guided by remarkably able men, has developed wonderfully, as shown by the position it occupies in connection with the National University of Ireland. Irishmen at home and abroad will unite in heartily wishing the Hew Archbishop success in his work under the Southern Cross, where so many of his kith and kin have found happy homes, and where Irishmen have done so much for tho progress of religion. Born fortyeight years ago at Charlcville, County Cork, the birthplace of the late Archbishop Croke, he received his early education from the Christian Broth'ers, to \vhom he paid a warm tribute recently on the ocoasion of their Past Pupils' Union visiting Maynooth. From the Christian Brothers' School 'h'e proceeded to the Diocesan College, and thence to Maynooth, where he made- his mark as student, professor, and president.
