EVICTED.

LORD DENMAN'S PLIGHTTURNED OUT OF THE SYDNEY RESIDENCE. LABOUR MINISTRY'S EDICT. By Telegraph—Press Assoclation-Conyrtehl (Roc. October S, 0.45 a.m.) Sydney, October 7. The filial steps in connection with the resumption by the Stato authorities of Sydney Government House, which has been lent to the Federal Government since the foundation of tho Commonwealth, took placo this evening, When tho Gover-nor-General, Lord Denman, together with Lady Denman and his suite, vacated the promises and departed for Melbourne. A gathering of many thousands had been organised by the Citizens' Committee as a protest against the Government's action in resuming Government House, and bade farewell to his Excellency at tho station. The Lord Mayor read an address expressing profound regret and indignation at tlie series of events which had culminated in the departure of the GovernorGeneral without any definite announcement of his return. He declared that the action of tho Government was condemned by an overwhelming majority of the people. Lord Denman, in a farewell message, said he regretted leaving Sydney, both on personal grounds and also on publio grounds, because it seemed right that tho Governor-General, should have some permanent connection with tho parent State of the Commonwealth. A number of working men requested to be allowed to draw Lord Denman's carriage to the station,'but it was considered inadvisable to grant the request, owing to the holiday traffic in connection with tho Eight Hours' Day celebrations.
