THE CHARGE OF THE BULLS.
IN PEATHERSTON STREET. A couple of escaped bulls from tlio railway yard at Thorndon caused a deal of excitement in. tho city just before noon on Saturday. The frightened animals, hardly knowing what to niako of their liberty, when walled in between two lines of tall buildings, charged up Fcatherston Street, while onlookers dashed for safety into doorwnys and cellars. It was rather humorous to note that people who wero in front of the bulls disappeared miraculously as they came along, but the crowd behind them, including a worried-looking stockman with a whip, wero very bolil. What tltcy would have done if the bulls had turned is another story. At length one of the harassed beasts ambled into the vacant section, behind Young and Tripe's building, and was there penned in behind a. gate illuminated with the appropriate poster on which appears in bold letters "The catch of .the senson!" The other animal was secured with ropes lower down the street, without mishap. If this bull-catching is to become a national sport in Wellington— as seems to be not unlikely—the city will have to develop a Territorial corps of picadors and toreadors to [leal • with this dangerously live beef.
