.■ iTHE CONTINUING STREAM. Interesting: particulars are given in a British \Vhite Taper published on August 22 relating to the continuing stream of emigration to the colonics of the Empire. , Alike for the month of July alone, ami for Hip' four-months' period ending therewith,'Cnnadn, as will'be seen from the undernotod figures, easily mainta'ined her supremacy as n magnet for the Imperial settler. These were the figures for , British "emigrants" during the two periods: Country. Month, months. Canada »,421f !12,<!!)5 Australia 8,391 26,997 New Zealand 1,161) 2,828 South Africa 9S-1 4,51:1 India 1311 (iS2 Other colonics 438 1,760 Total 24,5-13 129,405 In all the above cases the emigrants left tho Motherland to take up "permanent' residence" in the country to Which he was proceeding. ' Information is also given as to the num. her of persons who "left the United Kingdom" for "places out of Europe" and for "ports on the Continent of Europe or within the Mediterranean Sea" during the first seven months of this year. The number of such who were British, subjects and whose destination was--, one or other of the British colonies was- 196,211. For the corresponding period of 1911 the figure was 159.831. A further table shows that during July 4195 permanent British "immigrants" arrived'in Britain from the. various colunios: of the Empire, and in the four months.' period 20,870. It may be of interest to add for the latter period the divisions of the ITnited Kingdom to which ■the""immigrant" returned or the "emigrant-' set out. -The totals were:— Emi-' Immi- ■ Country. grants, grants. England ' 97,650 15,83:( Wales : 1,491 389 Scotland 25.135, 3,253 Ireland- 5,213 895 ■Total; ....129,495 20,370 TJius, deducting the Imperial "immigrants" from the "emigrants," there remained a balance of "emigrants" nmounting'for'the period April-July _to 103,125. For" July alone the corresponding figure wa5'21,317. ■ In the case of Australia, New Zealand, India,.and "other colonies," the totals are exclusive of "persons travelling indirect;ly,'via Continental ports," and in nil the return's "residence for a year or more" is treated as "permanent" residence.
