THE NEW TRAMWAY REGIME. FIRST MONTH. BIG INCREASE IX REVENUE. Tho four-week period which ended 011 September 13 last covered the. first month of the new system of fares' and sections which the Wellington Tramway Board, under tho sanctiun of the City Council, instituted as a means to place (he tramways on a satisfactory financial footing. A report setting forth the statistics for that period was presented by the chairman of tho Tramway Board (Mr. W. 11. Morton), to the Tramways Committee of tho City Council yesterday afternoon. Revenue Increase, £633, For tho four weeks under review, states the report, the gross revenue has increased by .£633, and the working expenses have decreased by .£2O, as compared with tho corresponding period last year, tlie net result being a credit balance of .£506, as against a debit balance of .£GI ill 1911. The details, under their principal heads, are as follow:— 1912. 1311. The passengers carried for the four weeks amounted to 1,734,849, a decrease of 17,370 passengers' as .compared with last year, while tlie average faro paid per passenger during the four weeks was 1.43 d., as against 1.33 d. last year. The total passengers carried to date (24 weeks) amounted to 10,702,101, or 06,233 more passengers than last year: Per Car Mile. The car miles run for the four weeks totalled 175,318, a decrease of 2000_.car miles, -This makes ft total of 1*0*3,710 miles for the 21 weeks, an increase of 26,585 car miles as compared with last year, Tho total revenue per car mile for the four weeks averaged 10.11 d., ■an increase of 1.03 d. as against last year, while the revenue for the 21 weeks to date has averaged 14.4Gd. per car niile, or .02d. less than last year.' . ' The working expenses for the fotir weeks averaged 10.38 d. per car mile, an increase of .09d. as against last year. Tho total expenditure for the four weeks averaged 14.44 d. per car mile, leaving a profit of ,70d., a.s compared with- an average total expenditure last year for the four weeks of 14.19 d., with a net loss of ,08d. per car mile. Tho average total expenses per car mile to date have amounted to II.GGd., or ,20d. in excess of the revenue. Last year the expenditure averaged 14.10(1. per car mile, leaving a net profit of ,32d.
Power Supply Revenue. The power simply revenue to date has increased bv .£527. and the expenditure by .£363. ' The not result is a credit balance of -£f>5G. as .compared with .£492 last year.
