PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.

(By TelesrapK—Special Correspondent.) Palmerston, September 30. Collections taken up at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church yesterday in aid of the cinirch funil realised XSG. A very old resident of Palmerston North, Mr. John Henry Rush, passed away at his residence this morning after a short, but painful illness. Deceased, who arrived in Palmerston when there wore only about two or three settlers here, made the journey up tho Jtanawatu River by canoe, was 65 years of age, and was born in tho Hutt district. He was a member of the Roman Catliolic Churcli, and was one of the communicants in the first Mass celebrated some forty years ago by Father Jforeau, a French priest, in a thatched whare, which stood on tho site of Coleman Place. He also took an activo part in volunteering. Deceased is survived by a widow, seven sons, and two daughters.
