THE HORSE TRADE.
FREIGHT I'o THE ARGENTINE,
The question of the freight charges oil horses shipped from New Zealand to the Argentine or Uruguay was referred to at the annual meeting of the Clydesdala Horso Society. Mr. Short, of f'cilding, expressed the opinion that there was a big market in Uruguay and Argentina for Clydesdale stock, but the freights charged from the Dominion to these countries were far too high. He referred to the steps that might' be taken to get a reduction in these freights, and moved:
"That steps be taken' to approach tho various shipping companies trading between Great Britain and New Zealand and to South America for the purpose of securing a reduction in freight and other charges on stud stock shipped from tho Dominion. Also-that a deputation wait on . the Minister for Agriculture to place the position fully before him and secure his co-operation in approaching tho various shipping companies." Continuing, the speaker said he knew there were'four of the wealthiest men in tho Argentine on their way out here to buy horses, cattle, and sheep in the Dominion. The chargo also for bringing a horse from England here ran into, roughly, .£IOO. This was a great contrast to the position in where stock was carried hundreds of miles and placed on the farms free of charge. Mr. >T. W; Harding seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously.
