'j Pahiatua, September 23. r A. recent cablegram giving statements published in the English papers concerning compulsory military training in New Zealand was discussed at a meeting of " the local branch of tire honorary terriJ torials last night. The statements of tho p anti-militarists were strongly resented, '* nnd the following resolution was carried unanimously:— o "That tho attention of the Government he drawn to letters on the sub--0 ject of compulsory training in tho Dominion as appearing in tho columns of the 'Manchester Guardian' and 'Daily News,' that this meeting de- ' sires tho Government to givo the true details to the British public, and that a copy of the motion be forwarded to v tho Piiino Minister." ® It was also decided that letters be ■" written to the "Manchester Guardian" J} and "Daily News" statin;; tho true position of tho territorial movement a in Now Zealand! further, to request the R Deputy-Mayor to call a. public meeting to consider tho question of extending an inn vitation to the Canadian cadets to visit n l'ahintua. It is proposed, if tho invitai- tion is accepted, to extend every host pitnlity to the cadets, and to take them g oil' a visit to the Ballance Dairy Com--5 pany's factory, which sold over 50 tons e of butter to Vancouver last year.
