THREE LIVES LOST. BRITISH AVIATOR'S FATAL FALL, PARACHUTE FAILSBy Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright. London, September 22. Mr. H. J. D. Astley, one of the bestknown liritisli airmen, while aeruplaning at Belfast, banked his monoplane ton sharply, ami fell from a height of ISO feet into an. enclosure containing thirty thousand spectators. lie was terribly :n----jured, ami died after an operation, [lis wife, meanwhile, was watching the Hying at Hendon and receiving congratulations on Mr. Astley's recent escape while Hying in Belgium. (Rec. September 21, 0.20 a.m.) London, .September 23. Mr. Astley was a wealthy man, having inherited the late Sir .Tohn Astley's fortune. Ho was married to Hiss May Kinder, the actress. 'When ho realisedthat he had lost control of his machine, and that an accident was certain, he frantically waved to the onlookers to move, and turned his machine so that he just cleared tho crowd. GERMAN FATALITY. Berlin, September 22. , Some lieutenants wcro using an albatross biplane when a heavy wind, combined with a defect in tho steering gear, caused the machine to reel. One of the officers was thrown out and fell five hundred feet, being killed. His fall destroyed tho balance of the machine, which was overturned, and crashed to the earth. PARACHUTIST DASHED TO PIECES. Berlin, September 22. Herr Bittner, an inventor, ascended over the Pillar of Victory to test a new parachute device. The parachute failed to act, and the unfortunate man was dashed to pi'eees. A kineinatogrnph operator was present to record the descent, but photographed the tragedy.
