NEW FIRE STATION.

OPENED AT. SEATOUX. Oh Saturday afternoon the Mirnmar Volunteer Fire Brigade Station at Seatoun was opened by the Mayor of Miramar (Mr. H. N. M'Leod). Theresas a good gathering of residents and visitors, among whom were a number of ladies. The Miramar Municipal Brass Band played selections throughout the' proceedings In formally openingi the station, the Mayor congratulated the residents upon having a fino body of fire-fighters in their midst, men whose unselfish service called forth from them long patience in practice, expertness in work, promptitude in emergency, and bravery (in the face of danger. Tlie.appreciation!of these services was expressed by three hearty cheers. Cheers were also given for the band, whose pei'V formance was greatly enjoyed by those present. •„ To signnliso the opening, the fire-bell wns runs by a lady representing tho Sea(tonn portion of the district, and competitions between teams and members of the brigade followed. The Mirnmar team won the four-men event, and Messrs. Hull (Mirainar), Tracey (Seatoun), and Fuller (Seatoun) were first, second, • and third respectively for the one-man event, the winner securing a gold-medal.- Superintendent Tait, of the City Firs Brigade, and ex-Foreman Woolcott judged tho contests. ■ ' The opening ceremony marks another I step in the advance of this suburb, which, besides possessing trams, ferry service, light, water, drainage, and gas. has added to its social and civic attractions during the past year such facilities as a town hull, fire brigade, brass band, bowling nnd j tennis club, and swimming club-house. After the contests nn adjournment was made to the Seatoun Tea-rooms, where refreshments were dispensed.
