LIFE COMPANY'S AFFAIRS.
INVESTIGATION ASKED FOR. By Telegraph—Press Association—Oopyright Melbourne, September 20. In the Victorian Legislative Assembly, Mr. Snowball, member for Brighton, presented a petition with five signatures asking for an investigation of the affairs of the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society. The petitions stated that they believed , that the holders of one-tenth of the shares desired such an inquiry. Tho petitioners desired tho appointment of a Royal Commission or an inspector to investigate.
Tho Chief Secretary said he had communicated with the Attorney-General with a view to taking immediate action to have a preliminary investigation. If the Attorney-General's report showed that there- was no truth in the foundation for tho charges, it would be improper and unfair to appoint a Royal Commission, but if the company could not make a complete refutation of the charges a commission would bo appointed.
