ROUGH WEATHER.
AND ELECTRICAL STORM. (By Teloeraph.-Epeclal Correspondent.) Wanganui, September 17. An exceedingly violent thunderstorm— ono of the heaviest experienced for yoars, passed over tho Wanganui district last night. Vivid and incessant lightning and heavy crashes of thunder wero accompanied by fierce squalls of rain and hail, while a strong westerly blew with almost hurricane force. In tho morning the sky cleared, and tho, woal&cr remained fairly clear all day, but (ho gale continued unabated till tho evening, when it died away. Fortunately tho storm did not work any havoc to epeak of, the blowing down of one or two chimneys and the stripping of gardens being practically tho only damage. Vessels which arrived in port to-day, report having received a rough time in Cook Strait, especially tho Arapawa and Stonnb'ird from Wellington, which- ran into a eevcre electrical st6rm when rounding Terawhiti. Thia was accompanied by mountainous 6cas. A very heavy sea is running on tho coast, but the storm now appears to have blown itself out.
