A FATAL MISTAKE.
"ROUGH ON RATS" TAKEN INSTEAD OF SULPHUR, , (Bj; Telegraph.—PretJ Association.) ■ Christchurch, September 17. An inquest was held to-day on Tliomoß Anderson Robertson, 49 years of age, a pastrycook, who died at 2 a.m. The evidence, of deceased's wife was to the effect that Robertson had been out of work for a. week. Ho sometimes took too much drink, but it did not take much to upset him. When he returned homo at 8 p.m. on Monday, under the iiiHucnco of liquor, about 11 o'clock Robertson, who was Buffering from rheumatism, and who was in tho habit at nights of taking sulphur tor tho complaint, asked witness to get some cream of tartar and soda. She found that tho box in which the sulphur was kept was untouched, but the Ud was off a box containing ".rough on rate. On asking Robertson, ho said be bad taken sulphur. Witness elated that deceased was sufficiently fuddled to mistake rough on rats" for sulphur. After hearing medical evidence, a verdict was recorded that deceased died of arsenic poisoning as the result of taking "rough, on rats in mistake for sulphur. '
