LAWN TENNIS.

WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION'S REPORT. The annual report of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association, to be presented at the annual meeting on September 25 next, states that during the past year three clubs affiliated with the association (Cartoton Bowling Green Tennis-Club, Pukekoa, and Terrace End), and four clubs (Alanawatu, Pahautanni, Waikanae end Mastertou' Y.M.C.A.) resigned. There are now iorty-one clube affiliated with the association, tho' total membership being 2007. The weather during the season was unfavourable; and-, the. four new.,courts were found to be.;too-exposed- to be-Eatis-tactory. The courts, as a", whole, were in .worse condition than, during previous, seasons, partly due ib the nature of the ground and partly to want of proper attention.. As the outcome of : pressing representations to', the Ferry. Company's manager," the courts were carefully pre- , •pared for the championship tournament, and their condition during the tournament was good,' and clearly shewed thai the courts had hitherto suffered from want of proper preparation. Tho balance-sheet shows a credit of ; j7 J s - Rid- on 0 year's work, in contradistinction, to the previous year's credit of j>4o 2s. Id., a difference of £33 os. 7Jd. The reason for this difference is that this year there have been greater demands on the association's resources than last year namely, the increase in (1) rent for the Day's Bay courts of .£ls; (2) in the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association's charges ot .£l9 11s. 5d., a portion of which should iSFZ n cilar Sed tho previous year; and (3) because it has been deemed advisable to write off an amount that was inofuded m last year s assets, viz., Wanganui clubs' l«s, £6 18s.; defunct clubs' fees, £2 12s. •id.; lastly, the depreciation of material has bsen.put down at £5, in all makin" a with the Wellington Investment and Trusw. A^ a °}: c ompany has now increased to £0i Its. 7d the whole being interestbearing.. While showing a smaller credit balance in the year's work, the association is really in a sounder position with regard to its assets than, at the beginnin- ol

At tho annual, meeting, Mr. Barclay will move: "That the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Aesociation's levy on this association ot up to threepence per number be m fuhiTo charged against the several clubs Jot transference to each member, in addition to the present flnniial subscription, ana that Kule 7 be amended accordingly "
