NEW CAR SYSTEM-SAVING :ir ■■-'.••■ -EFFECTED. ■ ' "Very satisfactory" was tho comment expressed by tho Mayor (Mr. D. M'Laron) at tho City Council last evening, on a report by tho Tramway Board that since tho introduction of the present time-table thero had been a marked decrease iii tho power units consumed per car mile. For the week ended July 31, 126,400 units were delivered to the line, and for tho week ended August 25 tho number was 112,000, showing a reduction of 14,300 units. It was remarked V vnrious speakers that tho. tramways staff was working iii tho very best spirit to assist the corporation in the running of the system under tho new time-table, which had been framed to suit the altered scale of sections and fares. In future, monthly reports aro to take the place of tho present weekly reports.
