MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M.) OWNEKS AND TENANT. Edward D. Barber and Harold Barber, of Wellington, proceeded against Alexander Johnston, tram conductor, to recover £b as money alleged to bo duo for tho rent of a house, and .£1 which plaintiffs said they were entitled to in lieu of one week's notice.
Defendant counter-claimed for ,£B. He stated that he had taken the house on the understanding that it was in good repair, but he had found that the house leaked. Because of this leakage, he added, his furniture had been damaged to tho extent of .£B.
Mr. A. Fair appeared for the plaintiffs, and Mr. P. W. Jackson for the defendant. His Worship gave judgment for Hie plaintiffs for .£5, and decided against defendant on the counter-claim.
GUARANTEE ALLEGED. In a case in which Easson, Ltd., timber merchants, proceeded against M'Lean and Gray, contractors, claiming .£177 15s. 9d., as the amount of an account which plaintiffs said defendants had guaranteed for a third party, his 'Worship nonsuited the plaintiffs. .Mr. T. C. A. Hislop was counsel for the plaintiffs, and Mr. P. H. Putnam appeared for tho defendants.
UNDEFENDED CASES. In the following cases judgment was entered for the plaintiffs by default:— Wairarapa Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., v. Mrs. J. Paterson, .£3 4s. 4d., costs lis.; Wellington Gas Co., Ltd., v. William Holmes, 4s. 2d., costs 75.; W. and G. Turnbull and Co. v. A. Moycs, .£l9l Is. Cd., costs .£8 17s. Gd.; Chnrles Pratt and Co. v. Martha M'Grcgor, £b 25., costs M 13s. Gd.
■ JUDGMENT SUMMONS. H. J. Valentine was ordered lo pay Wylie Bros. ,£lO 13s. in instalments of £1 per week.

POLICE BUSINESS. . (Before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) For insobriety, Annie Winifred Dunn was fined 55., and Hugli White, 10s. Ruby Kirk, who was deemed to bo an idle and disorderly person, was sentenced to.one month's imprisonment. Angus Wilkenning was ordered to pay Court costs 7s. for having left a vehicle unattended in a public thoroughfare. Charles Blatcher was adjudged the father of a certain child. Ho was required to find a surety that ho would not leave the Dominion.
