ORDER OF ST. OLAV
HONOUR FOR NORWEGIAN CONSUL:
Mr. A. W. Newton, Consul in New Zealand for Norway, lias (ns previously notified) hnd bestowed upon Mm the high honour of Chevalier of the Order of St. Olav (first degree), an honour similar, it might be remarked, to that recently bestowed on Amundsen on Ms return to Norway after discovering the South Polo. King George's permission to wear the insignia of the Order is contained in a lotter forwarded to Mr. Newton, through his Excellency iho Governor. The insignia is an exceedingly handsome gold cross (each terminal of which has double points) faced with while enamel, tuul between the points is the letter 0, surmounted by a. lion. On one side the eclitre is a linn rampant holding an axe in a most threatening manner, and on the back, the centre is of rod enamel with 'the words: "Kct Øog Sanhcd" (right and truth), standing out in gold. The cross is surmounted by a dainty crown in relief in gold and white enamel. 'With the insignia is Ibc ribbon, red with a narrow border of blue and white, from which the Order is suspended.
