UNWELCOME "ESCORTS." (By Telegraph-Press Association.) Waihi, August 31. Tho marked attention given to somo of the employees while going to and from their work at Waikino by a section of the ■strikers is becoming quite a. feature in Waihi and Waikino townships. An escort, numbering anything from twenty to fifty men, walking close in the rear of one or two individuals, with a running fire\of questions, more or less unanswerable, and comments, has been tho usual spectacle from the Waihi Railway Station.' On the arrival of the evening train last night thero was an addition to the escort of two employees on their return from Waikino, Sergeant Wohlmanu afid three constables swelling the number. The procession, comprising fifty men, followed close upon the heels of the two men. On reaching the residence of ono of tho men. a few of the attendants and one constable dropped out. The rest followed the solitary individual, who maintained his position in the van, and ho led the procession till ho had arrived at his home. Here the escort disbanded.
The questions and comments by the escort last evening were not characterised l>y any remarks peculiar to previous escorts:* indeed, there was a marked reticence, and to tho men who were followed their attitude was one of marked indifference.
"BLAZE AT ANY MOMENT." Auckland, September 1. Latest news from Huntly indicates that the situation there among the miners is really serious. An ill-considered action or untactful move would set Huntly in a "blazo" at any moment.
