Lieutenant Evans has sailed from London to rejoin tlio Scott Antarctic expedition ship Terra Nova.—Press Association. _ Mr. W. M'Kenzie, who has been associated with tho staff of Tub Dominion since its inception, and who recently resigned his appointment as travelling representative of tho paper in order to take up a position on tho staff of the "Sydney Daily "Telegraph," was farewelled at the Grand Hotel on Friday afternoon, prior to his departure for "Sydney. Mr. A. Blanton, on behalf of the commercial side of the paper, referred in very complimentary terms to Mr. M'Kenzio's work, energy, and zeal in the discharge of his duties, and expressed tho regret of himself and the other members of the staff that he had found it necessary, for domestic reasons, to try a change of climate. Mr. Blanton also read an appreciative letter from tho Editor of Tiie Dominion (Mr. Chas. Earle), and on behalf of both the literary and commercial departments of the paper, presented Mr. M Kenzie with* a purse of sovereigns as a_ token of esteem and regard. Mr. 31. C. Iveaue (associate-editor of The Dominion), also added felicitations, after which the assembled company toasted their departing 'confrere, with musical honours.
As announced in Friday's issue, the death occurred at Wellington on Thursday, August 29, of an old resident of tho city and district in the person of Mr. George Graham Wilson. Born at Kilmarnock, Scotland, in 1838, deceased spent some years in the Homeland and in India, and arrived in Wellington on Christmas Day, 1874. The voyago in tho Lan<-stone-a sailing ship-took 110 days from Lngland. The landing was effected per boat foot planks on the beach near the thistle _ Inn Hotel. Deceased was employed in the accountants' office of tho Railway Department for 35 years, and retired on superannuation some three years ago, since when his health had been indifferent. Ho loaves a widow, a grownup family of six sons and daughters, and several grandchildren to mourn their loss. Mr. W. H. Judkins, tho well-Known journalist and social reformer, of Mel: bourne, who has been suffering from cancer for nearly two years, has induced his medical attendants to operato once .again in tho hope that ho will be afforded relief.'
.To perpetuate the memory of tho late Mr. E. A. Watkins, for many years principal of the Christchurch Toacners' Training College, tho North Canterbury Educational Institute has decided to establish an annual prize to be awarded for education work at the Training College. Ex-students of the Christchurch Normal School are being communicated with on the matter of contributions.

Mr. J. D. Williams, Hie Sydney and Melbourne picture theatre proprietor, who has acquired the lease of the Adelphi Theatre from tho Adelphi Picture Company, is expected to arrive here from Sydney on Wednesday.
Mr. G. H. Archibald, who, with Miss E. J. Archibald, and Miss Margaret; Backhouse, is to deliver a course of extension lectures to Sunday school teachers in Wellington next week, is Extension Lecturer of tho Sunday School Union, and Director of Studies, West-hill Training _ Institute, Bournville, England. Tho Wellington lectures will commence oil September 11 next, at the Wesley Hall, Taranaki Street, and will extend about a week.
An Auckland Press Association telegram states that Mr. W. H. Smith, of tho firm of Smith and Caughey, drapers, died on Saturday morning; aged,6l years. Mr. Smith served on the City Council ntone time, and look an active part in religious work, being a strong supporter of the'Ccntral Mission.
