EXPLANATION AND APOLOGY. (Br lolegraph.— Vnet Association.! Auckland, August 26, Tho University College Council carl ried the following resolutions to-day:— "That in view of tho explanation and apology contained in tho letter from tha Students' Association to tho College Council in connection with tho interruptions which took place during tho reoent capping ceremony, tho council suggest to tho Professorial Board reconsideration of tho question with a view to the possiblo withdrawal of their recommendations to tha University Council (that tho pnblic presentation of degrees bo abandoned for ono year). Further, tbat tho council, in suggesting this 'course, is prepared to support tho Professorial Board in obtaining from tho Students' Association an unqualified expression of regret for the recent disturbance, and whatever guarantees tho board considers neoessary to prevent the recurrence of such unsoeml.y Interruptions on any future occasion." "That the council accepts tho cxpres. sion of regret on behalf of tho Association' for tho disturbance at the capping ceremony, and recommends tho association to approach the Professorial Board tendering a full apology for tho disorder referred to, and offering to provide a sufficient guaranteo against a repetition of unseemly conduct on futura occasions."
